Internet FTP publishing, 1
This section will show you, using very simple steps, how to publish your Website on the Internet.
Before publishing your site, you must first set up the FTP parameters. You only have to do this once and you can obtain all your parameters from your system administrator, your ISP, or your host.
What’s FTP? If you want the whole World to be able to see your Web pages (your personal ones, or your company site) the pages have to be hosted on a computer permanently connected to the Internet, a “Web server”. Maybe your firm already has it. Or there are many firms with dedicated Internet connections that offer this service for free or for an annual / monthly fee (we suggest our partner DewaHost,
click here for more info). In any case you will receive the “FTP parameters” that act as key for your web space (
for more information about hosting and domains, click here).
So let’s suppose we have the following parameters:
server FTP: (also known as host, ftp server, servername; you may also insert the IP here, e.g. 12.22.33.44) ftp.yoursite.com
user identifier (also known as login id, userid, login, username, user): aniceid
password: XYty34
WWW path: http://www.yoursite.com/ (this parameter is not mandatory)
Initial remote directory (www folder): /www
The first step is to set them up. Choose “Publish >Internet - FTP >Setup...”:
You can modify the data for the “Default” profile, or you can create a new server profile with “Add new...”.
So, let’s create a new profile by using “My Smart Profile” as name, with "Add new...".
First of all, we'll insert our parameters:
As you see, the password is hidden with “#”. You can store it by using the “save password” box which is useful for avoiding having to keep digging the password out every time you want to get connected.
When all the parameters are OK, press the “Close” button to save your settings.
